As such, she is responsible to explain and advance the interests of the United States to the residents of Manitoba, and to report their views and issues to the U.S. Embassy in Ottawa and to Washington. Her expected tour of duty is three years.

Ms. Jones was born and raised in Michigan, on the U.S.-Canadian border. She has a degree in English and writing for secondary school teaching from Eastern Michigan University, and received an M.A. in English from Acadia University in Nova Scotia. Her PhD in English from University of Alberta focused on North American and British feminist writing. She taught at a small college in Ohio for 10 years before teaching American studies and literature in Tallinn, Estonia as a Fulbright scholar, then joined the U.S. Foreign Service. She has served in Warsaw, Poland; Dhaka, Bangladesh; and Port of Spain, Trinidad as Public Affairs Officer.
